18 - STATEMENT OF INTENT - Final Draft

FINAL DRAFT How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words) The concept for my video is to represent the chosen track through a strong narrative and style. I hope to be able to reflect the themes and tone of the original track well when creating the music video, while also keeping the video unique with my own personal style. I will have the narrative of the video predominantly feature the outdoors, including forests, moors, etc. This should fit in well with the folk genre of the music as well as the aesthetic and content of the song itself. It will then attract the specific audience I'm targeting due to this choice in strong representation of the music’s themes. This concept will fit into the core values of the record company, Sony Music, which is to “ inspire the world to do great things through the influence of music by promoting inspirational melodies and lyrics...

17 - Artist Logo and Title

Image
ARTIST LOGO AND TITLE SCREEN I plan to put the artist logo near the beginning or end of the music video. I imagine it would begin over a black background, and as the black fades into the first shot, the logo will fade away. This allows the audience to know immediately the artist of the song, as well as through showing the logo will they get a sense of the kind of music the artist creates as well as the kind of music video they are about to see. I still have two logos that I am debating between using. The first has a cold colour pallet, and has a more natural feeling to it. On the other hand, the second I think has a slightly nostalgic feeling with it's colour pallet, which is also much warmer. The second can also be Tweaked in a way that it does not show any built in text, as well as the fact that it feels more balanced in comparison to the first.  I will likely do the same at the end of the video as well, although possibly without showing the logo and only the name of the b...

16 - FIVE SECTIONS - Planning and Storyboarding

Image
SEGMENTING THE VIDEO Before I start trying to decide where and how I split the video, I would like to trim down the song itself as it is over 4 minutes long in total. I have a good idea of how I can do this without being abrupt or feeling unusual. At the time stamp 3:20 in the track, the song goes into an instrumental part where I would like it to play for about 8 bars before it completely fades out. This would mean my music video would end at around 3:40. The majority of what will show in this last part of the music video I am planning to also be quite simple, before fading to black along with the audio. I want to be able to focus the most of my efforts into the rest of the video. Above I have segmented the audio into five sections. I decided to do this visually because I find it is easier to understand and comprehend. For better understanding I have also sectioned off my lyric script into these segments below through highlighting the text. Instrumental Introduction P1 Instrumental In...

15 - PLANNING - Story, Shot Details, Lyrics

SHOT DETAILS AND CONSIDERATIONS In the first shot of the video, I would like to make use of a single mise-en-scene shot (I imagine with the camera slowly zooming out to create motion and reveal more to the audience slowly rather than overloading the eyes all at once). It would reveal everything needed about the character and their lifestyle; putting work over anything else. Through one or two simple actions, such as closing the curtains to block out the sun, this could be conveyed. This would also cause the lighting to change inside of the room. It will be much darker, with much less vibrant tones. Later on in the video, most likely the very end, I would like to replicate this first shot similarly to create a parallel, with the only change being that the character is no longer there. The curtains originally shown would also be wide open, allowing the sunlight and warm tones to pour into the room. I am considering after the first shot of the video to have some establishing shots of the ...
