16 - FIVE SECTIONS - Planning and Storyboarding

SEGMENTING THE VIDEO

Before I start trying to decide where and how I split the video, I would like to trim down the song itself as it is over 4 minutes long in total. I have a good idea of how I can do this without being abrupt or feeling unusual. At the time stamp 3:20 in the track, the song goes into an instrumental part where I would like it to play for about 8 bars before it completely fades out. This would mean my music video would end at around 3:40. The majority of what will show in this last part of the music video I am planning to also be quite simple, before fading to black along with the audio. I want to be able to focus the most of my efforts into the rest of the video.


Above I have segmented the audio into five sections. I decided to do this visually because I find it is easier to understand and comprehend. For better understanding I have also sectioned off my lyric script into these segments below through highlighting the text.

STORYBOARDING

Because doing a full storyboard describing every single shot would take too much time, I will leave the more detailed aspects of this to when I write my shooting script. Instead, for the storyboard I would like to use this as a change to put into visuals specific ideas I have, along with ways to compose certain shots or colour pallets I plan on using. I will have to draw my characters in a certain way to one another to make sure they are recognisable, despite the fact that I do not have a plan as to who they are going to look like exactly. The design I end up giving the characters will not be a good representation as to how they look in the final, besides maybe their clothing.

RE-SHOOTS AND ADDITIONS When editing the majority of my re-shoots were done during the sections of the video when the protagonist is at home. This was quite lucky, as you can imagine. STEVE BARRON Steve Barron is an Irish filmmaker and director born in 1956, Dublin. He started work in films as a camera assistant, and slowly growing to have directed for a huge number of films, TV shows and music videos, as well as doing all sorts of other works. Some notable works include directing a number of episodes from the television series "The Storyteller", produced by Jim Henson, along with directing the films "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" in 1990 and "The Adventures of Pinocchio" in 1996.
